Callie Butcher

Callie Butcher is an accomplished transgender attorney, a well-respected leader in the Dallas LGBTQ+ community, and founder of Butcher Legal Group PLLC where her practice focuses on advocating for and serving the LGBTQ+ community, representing companies in patent negotiations and litigations, and providing legal advice and representation for general corporate matters, including contract negotiations and corporate governance. She has a deep commitment to social justice and equality, and her work on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community in Texas has made a significant impact, helping to improve the lives of countless individuals. Whether in the courtroom, the legislature, or the community, Callie is a powerful advocate for justice and equality.

Callie began her career an associate at one of the largest international law firms in the world. In her time there, she amassed a wealth of legal and business experience while representing public and private companies in complex litigation matters and advising companies in connection with sales and acquisitions of intellectual property, patent cross-licensing, IP due diligence, and development of employee manuals and policies. While practicing law at a large law firm provided her with the opportunity to work with some of the largest companies in the world and provided an incredible platform to build her skills as a professional and an advocate, Callie’s true passions lie in advocating for underserved communities that are so often subject to discrimination and hate. Callie is especially passionate about serving as a representative and advocate for the transgender and broader LGBTQ+ communities, and this was a driving force in her decision to form Butcher Legal Group.

At Butcher Legal Group, Callie devotes her time to serving her clients, with an emphasis on effectively resolving legal disputes affecting the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals. One area of particular focus is legal name and gender marker changes. As a transgender attorney, Callie has a unique understanding of the challenges that transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals face in obtaining legal recognition for their identities. She has worked tirelessly to help clients navigate this often-complicated process and secure legal name and gender marker changes.

In addition to her work on behalf of individuals, Callie is also deeply committed to advocating for policy changes that benefit the LGBTQ+ community. She has been actively involved in lobbying efforts at the state and local level, working to advance policies that promote equality and protect the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals.

In all aspects of her work, Callie believes in creating and maintaining close professional relationships built on trust and loyalty, which are critical to effectively managing changing workflows and efficiently communicating and collaborating with clients or co-counsel. The unique relationships she cultivates allow her to achieve successful outcomes on behalf of her clients even in unlikely circumstances.

Callie has been recognized in the 2021–2023 editions of The Best Lawyers as a “Ones to Watch in America” and “Women In The Law: Ones To Watch” in Intellectual Property Litigation, and was named a 2022 “Top Women Lawyer” by Texas Diversity Council. She is the current President of the Dallas LGBT Bar Association and also serves as a member of the board of the Dallas Bar Association. When not working, Callie volunteers with local LGBTQ+ organizations, including Lambda Legal, where she serves on its Dallas Leadership Committee, and Black Tie Dinner, where she serves on the board and as a member of the Events and Operations Committee.  Callie's leadership in the Dallas LGBTQ+ community is a testament to her commitment to promoting equality and social justice. She is a trusted and respected voice in the community, known for her unwavering dedication to making a difference in the lives of those she serves.
